Our residential care services are designed for homeowners, self-gardeners and those with gardeners who need specialised tree & hedge care.
We believe in educating our clients about the importance of proper tree care. Good practices, like proper pruning, enhance tree health, structure and aesthetics, while bad practices can cause lasting damage. Topping—the practice of cutting large branches to stubs—and pollarding, which involves severe pruning to control tree size, are methods we avoid due to their detrimental affects on tree health. These practices can lead to weak regrowth, increased susceptibility to diseases, and shortened tree lifespan. Additionally, improper cuts, which do not follow the natural growth patterns of the tree, can create wounds that are prone to decay and infestation.
Correct Pruning Methods:
Following the guidelines set by the Arboricultural Association, our team ensures that every pruning cut is made with precision and care. Proper pruning techniques are crucial for maintaining tree health and structure.
-
Cleaning: Removing dead, dying or diseased branches to prevent decay and improve the tree’s health.
-
Thinning: Selectively removing branches to improve light penetration and air circulation within the canopy, reducing the risk of disease.
-
Raising: Removing lower branches to provide clearance for pedestrians, vehicles or structures.
-
Reduction: Carefully shortening the length of branches to reduce the overall size of the tree while maintaining its natural shape.
Each cut is made just outside the branch collar (the swollen area where the branch attaches to the trunk), which allows the tree to heal properly and minimises the risk of disease. We avoid flush cuts, which can damage the trunk and impede healing, and stub cuts, which leave too much branch tissue and can lead to decay.
Our team ensures that every cut, trim and removal is done with precision and care, preserving the natural beauty and health of your trees. We also offer consultation services to help you understand the best practices for maintaining your garden.
